The Many Meanings Of Christmas

It’s a holiday with so many meanings and so few girl groups with matching wigs. Colored leather coordinated separates are few and far between this holiday. Merry Christmas from North Beach Leather circa 1988. Company B rules.

WINGS – 1927

The 1927 film Wings was the first and only silent film to win the Academy Award for Best Picture. Buddy Rogers and Richard Arlen star in the film, playing two combat pilots who vie for the affection of the same woman (Clara Bow). That’s the storyline. But neither, as writer Kevin Sessums writes, “shows as much love for her … as they do for each other.”

An Intriguing Summer Look

Donna-Summer-cutout

 Donna Summer to be exact.

Would you say that’s draped or simply tied on? No zipper, no buttons, hmmm  just tied at the belly button, huh? I wonder what that looks like on a hanger? – not much I bet. It’s sort of a full plunging ultra high-cut disco diaper with a center-front dangly bit, really. What if she had to pee during intermission? Does it just fling itself off with a “boing” like a rubber band? I think we all would agree on one thing about this garment so let’s face it –  it takes a Full Brazilian. What’s that thing made of anyway?…must be Quiana or some type of Quiana related stretch fabric brought to us from 3M. It could even be a viscose knit, right? Can I just ask one thing about this costume of Donna’s? – Is it tape?

Well, no matter what you call it or how you put it on or take it off, it sure looks amazing with matching bracelets. Good call, mystery disco stylist of yesteryear.

Speculations on the shoe anyone? Let’s discuss:

Quotable Teens

This one is approaching mantra for me. It is withstanding the test of time and it remains one of the best answers to any question ever asked.

Let’s review it here for those of you trying to memorize it:

  • I personally believe, that U.S. Americans are unable to do so be-cuz some people out there in our nation don’t have maps and I believe that our education like such as in South Africa and the Iraq everywhere like such as, and, I believe that they should our education over here in the U.S. should help the U.S. or should help South Africa and should help the Iraq and the Asian countries so we will be able to build up our future ( for our children. )
  • “Thank you very much, South Carolina.”

That’s a great Mario Lopez quote worth repeating at the right moment.

What’s Going On The Top

A beacon, how nice. I saw them testing this out the other night and now it’s nice to know : In fact I was not hallucinating while staring at the WTC, as I do so often. Pat Dry told me it will be in blue. I trust Pat.

A heartbroken spirit haunts an East Village home

Spewky.

Gertrude Tredwell, born into privilege in genteel 19th century New York, had many advantages.

She also reportedly had a domineering father and a lost love. And 80 years after her death, her spirit is rumored to roam the house where she lived all of her 93 years.

Her life began in 1840, the youngest of the eight children of merchant Seabury Tredwell.

Tredwell had a successful hardware business, and five years before Gertrude was born, he moved his brood into a new Federal-style townhouse on East Fourth Street.

At the time, the area between Washington Square Park and recently opened Lafayette Place was the most fashionable section of the city.

Gertrude grew up in comfort, but her life took a tragic turn. “According to the family’s history, Gertrude fell in love with a doctor, Lewis Walton,” wrote Philip Ernest Schoenberg in Ghosts of Manhattan.

“But her father, an Episcopalian…
