Enjoy over two and a half hours of non-stop funky, swishy, classy New York City style disco-era classics. Every one of them is a personal favorite of mine. These are the exciting sounds and intricate rhythms of Manhattan – City of Satin. The mood is elegant funk that leads us to an elevation in spirit – a higher level of disco-teric understanding. There is celebration in the music but it’s not without it’s natural counterpoint, a certain disco sadness. There are instrumental journeys, empowering chants, soaring vocal duets and there is The Hustle. Throughout the collection there remains an authentic musical mastery of the form that is as powerful and magical today as it was thirty-five years ago.
This is serious disco, people.

Now, this one really was my jam. Empress. Get into her. Sister Dimension owned this track. This was the sound of Whisper’s ( Sunday night at Pyramid. ) The levels on this rare 12″ mix are all over the place – so be ready for some ear bleed. It’s worth it though – the “rap” is hilarious but then again, this was 1981. Any lyric that starts off with a desperately shreeking, “Somebody help me!” is good for me. I hear you babe… I’m dying to be dancing.
Prelude Records made it happen. -Written and performed by Crown Heights Affair. – Produced my William Anderson and Raymond Reid.
Vocals are by Gail Smith.
Crank it.

1911: “First Fashion Shoot”
The Spring collection from the then hugely famous Paul Poiret was published by the French magazine “Art et Decoration” in an article called L’Art de la Robe (The Art of Dress). The collection significantly included these photographs by a young and then unknown Edward Steichen whose models posed in a more naturalistic style – a break away from the traditional clothes mannequin.

I’ll be there tonight from 6 to 10 PM filling in for Bunny. The last time I did this the staff freaked out and the dance floor was full from 6:30 onward. I’m not the type to boast so I won’t tell you I received a very gracious and surprising round of applause after my set! I do it all for the dancers.
Come and dance – I’ll be doing it all for you.
