Classic But Possibly Crazy Making Style Choices

Malachite walls may make your studio look bigger…assuming you can still see after the series of seizures it will cause. Do you literally disappear in this room when you wear your hooded malachite cat suit? Do you change your name to Malachite? Or do you never mention malachite but wear only lemon yellow for a year or until it feels right?

….but when Agate Mylar is an option, who wouldn’t go with AGATE MYLAR??

Why NYC is so unaffordable for artists?β€”and what can be done about it

β€œWhen people think of New York,” says Amanda Thickpenny, an actor who has performed withΒ the Pearl Theatre Company, β€œthey think of the artsβ€”Broadway, Lincoln Center, the Met, MoMA.” But the people who create that artΒ increasingly cannot afford toΒ live here, given the exorbitant housing and living costs.

Even the most famous and successful of artists seem to agree. InΒ an editorial forΒ The Guardian,Β David Byrne recalled the NYC of the 70s as β€œa center of cultural ferment”; today, he wrote,Β β€œmost of Manhattan and many parts of Brooklyn are virtual walled communities, pleasure domesΒ for the rich… there is no room for fresh creative types.” (The piece isΒ straightforwardly titledΒ “If the 1% stifles New York’s creative talent, I’m out of here.”)

And inΒ a recent sit-downΒ withΒ ElleΒ magazine, Patti Smith pointed out that in the same era, housing was much more easilyΒ had by aspiring creatives: β€œYou can have a bookstore job and a little apartment in the EastΒ Village. There were so many of us, so many like minds. You can’t do that now.”

AND NEVER FORGET THIS

Be Aware – Barbra and Burt

“Be Aware”

When the sun is warm where you are
And it’s comfortable and safe where you are
Well it’s not exactly that way
All overAnd
Somewhere in the world
Someone is cold, be aware.
And while you’re feeling young
Someone is old, be aware.
And while your stomach is full
Somewhere in this world
Someone is hungry
when there is so much
should anyone be hungry? When there’s laughter all around me
and my family embraces surround me
If I seem to be forgetful
Remind me

That
Somewhere in the world
People are weak, be aware.
And while you speak your mind
Others can’t speak, be aware.
And while your children sleep
Somewhere in this world
The child is homeless
When we have so much
Should any child be homeless?
Homeless?

No, not even one child!
Be aware…

Remembering Β Vivien Leigh Β on her birthday Β (5 November 1913 – 8 July 1967)

β€œA stunner whose ravishing beauty often tended to obscure her staggering achievements as an actress. Great beauties are infrequently great actresses – simply because they don’t need to be. Vivien was different; ambitious, persevering, serious, often inspired.” Β – Garson Kanin

DJ Dmitry In NYC

What a deee-lite to see an old friend back in town on business. His business is boogie and DJ Dmitry is boss. Dmitry is playing this Wednesday at Verboten in BK !!!Β  C U there.

Meanwhile you can jam to his two latest mixes posted recently on Mixcloud. This is exactly the sound of House music that I love and Dmitry’s mix of it is great. Love.

The Most Percolating Version of “Runaway” That Everybody Needs

This mostly instrumental version of Loleatta Holloway‘s “Runaway” recorded by The Salsoul Orchestra in all their glory could actually make your hip slip – so be careful.

FACTOID : Vincent Montana Jr. was the group’s founder, producer, arranger, conductor, primary songwriter and featured soloist. So pretty much a very large portion of all our Disco Classics came right outta this guy right here. Thanks Vince. R.I.P.

In any case – this is thee Salsoul track that will give you extra credit when your DJ and discophile friends are within earshot. Any of the classic disco dances are appropriate here – you could even bust a Lady Kier one foot wobble on this track because it is HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY and Vincent Montana Jr.‘s vibes vibe is clyassy! You can actually hear him singing along to his own playing on this version!

Oooh dat’s jus so classy. Mmmm.
