We are big believers in the power of arts and culture to support radical agendas and foster social justice. In recognizing such power, this summer we are launching Queer Power, an annual commission that supports socially committed artists whose work fosters social justice.

This inaugural commission, opening in June 2017, will feature the work of the Silence=Death Collective, adapting the famous poster used by Act Up during the AIDS Pandemic. The collective will reorganize the iconic elements of the poster and contextualize the message with language that addresses the contemporary civil rights issues faced by LGBTQ community.

Regarding all “Fifty (whatevers)” records: if you find yourself wanting to further explore this unique, sometimes genius, sometimes queasy making lost sub-genre of instrumental lounge recorderings and long-playing stereo alblums, be warned. All the “Fifty Mandolins of …” albums are un-listenable, most probably demonic-ly generated for the purpose of furthering dark energies in the musical universe and will instantly (and permanently) damage not only your hearing but also your personality…forever….WHAT???? HUH????

Contrarily, this ultra “it” bossa-nova record is clyass. I wore this OUT back in da Beige day.

There It Is (Verse 2), from The Holy Book of Shalamar

Today our Shalamar study group examines the sacred trio’s 1982 single,”There It Is” from the album, “Friends.” This is the blessed beat and heavenly sound of Solar Records. Inside the lyrics we find a piece of true dance-floor poetry. Effective, beautiful and transporting, the poem uses a simple simile on top of a sound that seems to smile as it sways softly over it’s central yet unwritten theme, “the sometimes turbulent waters on the ocean of love.”
